Cupcake Doilie Skirts
Me and cupcakes. Best friends forever.
I know they have been a hot trend for awhile now and may one day soon be replaced by the bunt cake or rice pudding rage that is coming upon us, but in all honesty, don’t you just love cupcakes? Even though they have just as many calories (or perhaps more) than a slice of cake, you just feel less guilty. It’s a bite sized indulgence every woman deserves more than once in awhile.
This week while I was contemplating my BFF, the cupcake, I realized that maybe I needed to take cupcake decorating beyond just toppers. And so I did it and I loved it and now I am sharing. Without further needless wording that you probably skipped over any way, here is how to make these easy extra fluffs of fabulous to your cupcake.
You will need:
4 inch doilies
cupcakes
jewel stickers (completely optional)
Fold your 4 inch doilie in half being careful to only crease the center – not the lace.
Cut the semi-circle of paper inside the lace out.
Shimmy the doilie skirt up your cupcake.
You may have to cut more lace off depending on the circumference of your cupcake. Standard-sized cupcakes should fit the four inch doilie pretty perfectly.
Add bling if your soul desires. Mine did.
Eat your cupcake while chanting, “I deserve this. I’m fabulous.“

THAT IS THE CUTEST! I feel like the cupcake should twirl in that little cupcake tutu and then take a bow! Since cupcakes don’t bow, you should! Love. So glad we’re sisters.
These are so cute!
Eek! SO. CUTE. MUST. EAT. CUPCAKE.
Thanks for sharing!
What a super idea. So cute. Perfect for Valentine’s Day coming up. You could even use the red ones!
Hugs,
Joanne
I so love this! Thank you!
Really cute for Valentines Day or a ballet party (maybe could even do something similar with tulle for a tutu?)
I love this–would you mind putting up a little tutorial on how you made the frosting look so fabulous??!
Love this idea! Your frosting looks so perfect, I can never get mine the right consistency to pipe it so nicely! Would you mind sharing your frosting recipe?
Stacy,
Thank you for the comment. I will see if I can get around to a tutorial some time soon. In the meantime, here a short description of what to do to get your frosting to look like the photos above: Use an extra large closed drop flower decorating tips. I like Wilton’s 1F flower tip. It makes super easy adorable flowers! Just squeeze and pull, squeeze and pull. For the final touch sparkle on a little edible glitter. Extra tip for left handers: 107L would work perfectly as well.
Thanks again for the comment,
Loralee
Hana,
Thank you for your comment. I got the idea on frosting these cupcakes from seeing them at a cupcake store here in Texas. See my reply to Stacy’s comment below for how to pipe it on. About the recipe I used here – Frosting is my nemesis. It’s failure and success. Failure and success. Even if I use the same recipe. This recipe is actually a cream cheese frosting recipe I used from Paula Deen’s Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting recipe. You can find it here.
Thank you again for the comment,
Loralee
Love this idea! I have some heart doilies left my Valentines Party, I may have to try this!

Some people might say that cupcakes don’t really need to be any cuter, but they’re wrong! These are so adorable! What did you use on the frosting to make them sparkle??
Thanks for sharing!

Absolutely love it! A simple and elegant touch of lace! Brilliant!
I love this idea and would like to incorporated it in my daughters wedding. We are making cupcakes and I finally got the frosting with the 1M tip down and now I see these cupcakes. I want to make them, but I am a novice at decorating and I know you say it is easy, just squeeze and pull, squeeze and pull, but it would help if you could post some pictures showing how you did it. Love your site and all your great ideas.
